Oopiri Review

"Oopiri" is a heartfelt and wonderfully constructed Indian film about the power of friendship, resilience, and finding joy in life's simplest moments. Vikramaditya, a quadriplegic millionaire, and his caretaker, Seenu, an ex-convict with a zest for life, are the main characters in the film. Nagarjuna Akkineni as Vikramaditya and Karthi as Seenu deliver standout performances, seamlessly embodying their characters' complexity and forging a true bond on screen. Their relationship is a joy to see, as it adds humour, warmth, and emotional depth to the story. Director Vamshi Paidipally expertly blends the film's heartbreaking moments with lighthearted humour, creating an emotional rollercoaster for the spectator. The screenplay features a rich tapestry of relationships and tackles themes of acceptance, personal growth, and the importance of companionship, all set to soul-stirring music. "Oopiri" is a cinematic jewel that is both visually lovely and skillfully handled. It provides a new perspective on life's difficulties, emphasising the value of living in the present.

TRIVIA

Trivia

Nagarjuna Akkineni asked the director to remove the flashback scenes, opting for a realistic version closer to the original. Vamshi Paidipally agreed, and the script was reworked in two months.

A 2.5 million INR customized wheelchair was imported from Sweden for the role.

Karan Johar and Guneet Monga acquired the Indian remake rights to Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano's French comedy-drama film, The Intouchables (2011) in May 2014. They planned a Hindi version, directed by Mohit Suri. Johar and Monga later authorized PVP Cinema to remake the film in regional languages, postponing their previous plans.

N.T. Rama Rao Jr. was signed to play one of the two male leads. At Rama Rao Jr.'s suggestion, Vamshi Paidipally forwarded the script to Nagarjuna Akkineni for the other male lead. Rama Rao Jr. left the project due to scheduling conflicts, and was replaced by Karthi in October 2014.

An assistant checked to see if Nagarjuna Akkineni moved his limbs during filming, and scenes had to be re-shot a number of times. Nagarjuna found the process "extremely challenging", and his legs sometimes became numb.
