Unlike the previous films in the franchise which have been in production for only 2 years (except the first Open Season (2006) which was in production for three and a half years) this one was more like 5 years having gone through production issues.
The movie's release coincides with the 10th anniversary of the original Open Season (2006).
Unlike other the Other Films, this film was released as a tv special, and was recorded in Canada with an Entirely Different Voice Cast, although Melissa Sturm reprises her role as Giselle from Open Season 3 (2010) in addition to Michelle Murdocca, Maddie Taylor, and Frank Welker reprising their roles as Maria, Deni, and the animal vocals provided in the film from the rest of the franchise.
Director David Feiss was the head of story on the original Open Season (2006).
The Wilhelm scream can be heard in the opening credits.
