TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

While announcing the selection of the film in competition at the Cannes film festival in 2021, Thierry Frémaux wondered what the French title -Les Olympiades- could mean. Actually it is the French name of the Parisian district where the action takes place. It is characterized by a cluster of high-rises built in the 70's and known as the largest "Chinatown" in all Europe.

It is an adaptation of three stories from Optic Nerve, a comic book series by Adrian Tomine. Specifically, it's based on several short stories from the series: Amber Sweet, Hawaiian Getaway and Killing and Dying. However, the character of Camille was invented for the movie.

Three days before shooting began, the entirety of the movie was played on a theater stage in Paris, as a rehearsal, in order to see what worked and what didn't, but also to speed up the shoot and thus limiting COVID-19 exposure for the cast and crew.

It is the first Jacques Audiard film in black and white.

This movie holds the record of the longest booing in Cannes, in 2021 : 43 minutes, topping former record holder Sean Penn's "The Last Face" and its 12 minutes of booing. Even though its director, Jacques Audiard, won the prestigious Palme d'Or with "Dheepan" in 2015, he is frequently nicknamed "The French Uwe Boll" ever since the theatrical release of "Les Olympiades" (paris, 13th district). his name as been withdrawn from the Patheon's shortlist.

Camille Germain: I love you. Émilie Wong: Can you say that again? Camille Germain: [shouting] I love you! Émilie Wong: No need to shout."

"Émilie Wong: What's your love life like? Camille Germain: I channel professional frustration into intense sexual activity. Émilie Wong: Cool. Camille Germain: Nothing noisy or invasive for a roommate. I promise. How about you? Émilie Wong: [in Chinese] Fuck first, see later. Camille Germain: Elaborate. Émilie Wong: It's a Chinese proverb. Rough translation: I was furious not to have shoes, so I met a man with no feet and I feel better. Camille Germain: Chinese is concise."
