Rick Riordan had planned to enter a semi-retirement and pursue his PhD when Disney approached him about this series. This series in conjunction with the proposed Netflix adaptation of The Kane Chronicles made him reconsider and ultimately delay his plans.
There are five planned seasons of the show, each adapting one book from the series.
One of Rick Riordan's chief complaints about Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010) was the aging up of Percy and other characters to be in their late teens. As a result, when writing the pilot for this series, Riordan was very specific in stating that Percy was 12 years old.
Rick Riordan has confirmed that the series will be live action and that he will be writing most of the teleplays for the series.
The series will adapt the first Camp Half-Blood series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Season one will adapt The Lightning Thief.
Author Rick Riordan was heavily involved in the production of the series to ensure it was a faithful adaptation of his books.
The budget for the first season was reportedly between $12-15 million per episode.
The series set a record for Disney Branded Television, garnering 13.3 million viewers for its premiere episode across Disney+ and Hulu in its first six days.
