As Prey (2022) took place in 1719, which places it at least two hundred years before the film's climax, raising questions about how Naru appears. Co-director Joshua Wassung was asked about the Predator with a cape that appears to be a bunch of Xenomorph tails However, the filmmaker only said they "designed that character to be as regal as possible." The character was the product of Alex Gillis and a group of talented artists' creativity. They wanted the Predator to be as terrifying as possible. When it comes to its backstory, Wassung wanted to leave that to the fans. He explained: "But we really wanted the fans to decide where each of those crazy skeletons came from. We figured there are all kinds of fun possibilities, because it's not just one, there are a lot of them. So that's where I believe it really is up to the fans and to kind of put the history into this character."
