Saltburn is the third movie in which Rosamund Pike and Carey Mulligan have both appeared; they played sisters in Joe Wright's "Pride and Prejudice" (2005) and friends in Lone Scherfig's "An Education (2009).
In a video conversation with Margot Robbie, who was also one of the producers of this film, Carey Mulligan said that the role Emerald Fennell originally offered her was not the one she ended up playing. Mulligan read the script and found she wanted to play a different character, and Fennell agreed to her request to play this other role instead.
Jacob Elordi read Evelyn Waugh's novel Brideshead Revisited as preparation for his role, which director Emerald Fennell had recommended to him as a way to get into character.
Some filming took place at the University of Oxford, which is also the alma mater of director/writer Emerald Fennell, an alumnus of Greyfriars, and star Rosamund Pike, a graduate of Wadham College. Both Fennell and Pike also completed degrees in the same subject, English Literature.
Feature film debut of Alison Oliver.
