Sarkar is a fantastic movie that sends out a strong message. A pivotal moment in the film occurs when the main character, Sundar, declares his candidature and addresses a colony of people. In response, he is asked if he is even aware of the price of tomatoes, and while he feigns ignorance sincerely, he takes advantage of it to educate them on economics and explains how it influences financial standing. He finally succeeds in persuading them. The director, in a clever manner, tries to establish that politics and business are not different from each other. The characters in the film are truly unforgettable and the actors chosen to play these characters have done a fine job indeed. Besides politics and drama, there are subtle elements of romance in the film as well which is refreshing. The songs are also decent and the film is a bit over-stretched but nonetheless worthy of being watched.

The protests by the AIADMK party members and supporters worsened to the point where police officers visited director A.R. Murugadoss' house when he wasn't there. After that incident, the director went to the High Court to get an anticipatory bail. Eventually, on the third day after the movie's release, the studio agreed to cut the controversial scenes and mute the name Komalavalli.
Sarkar teaser is the fastest to reach 1 million likes on YouTube within 4hours and 45minutes. The previous record holder was "Avengers: Infinity war" teaser trailer 1 which took 21hours to achieve this feat. Also vijay's mersal marks the first movie teaser to gain 1 million likes on YouTube which was followed by "Avengers: Infinity war","Captain Marvel","Thugs of Hindustan" and "Sarkar".
Director Murugadoss said in an interview that vijay's character in this movie is based on Google CEO Sundar Pichchai. Also Vijay is named as Sundar in this movie.
Sarkar is biggest release for vijay in overseas. Early reports suggest that Sarkar will be released simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu in more than 1200 screens in almost 80 countries.
Sarkar is the first tamil movie to be released in Poland, Mexico,New Zealand, Ukraine and Russia.
