Anthony Anderson's character, Mahalik, turned out so popular in test screenings, additional scenes for him were quickly written and shot while the film was already in post-production.
This was the only movie in the Scary Movie series to be nominated for a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award.
Anna Faris originally dyed her hair black for the first film because she wanted to resemble Neve Campbell more, as Scream (1996) was the film primarily being parodied. For this film, she simply reverted back to her natural blonde hair, to more closely resemble Naomi Watts, since this film primarily parodies The Ring (2002).
(at around 1 min) In the beginning of the movie, the scene where Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg are discussing what happens on the tape, McCarthy's character mentions something going on on a boat and a car. She is referring to Anderson's and Tommy Lee's famous private homevideo that was stolen and released online.
(at around 7 mins) The "And twins!" sequence is a parody of a 2003 ad campaign by Coors Light beer. Diane Klimaszewski and Elaine Klimaszewski reprise their roles as the Coors Light Twins from the ads.
"Mahalik: I heard Jamal from 90th street watched that tape last week and this mornin' he woke up dead! CJ: How the hell do you wake up dead? Mahalik: Cause' you're alive when you go to sleep. CJ: So you're telling me you can go to bed dead and wake up alive? Mahalik: You can't go to bed dead! That shit would've been redundant. CJ: No it would'nt cause' you can go to bed and not be dead, and you can die and not be in the bed. Mahalik: But you are in the bed. That's how you wake up dead in the first place fool! CJ: Damn! that's some quantum shit right there man! You should be teaching classes!"
