Director Gurudev Bhalla was signed by ABCL in 1998. He was to direct a film for them. Gurudev had finalized [Ameesha Patel] for the film. It is not certain if this is the same script as Shararat. However, that film got shelved due to low interest and unavailability in the film. The project was restarted in mid-2000 with Amisha Patel still doing the role of Neha, and Abhishek Bachchan doing the role of Rahul. However, the former walked out due to date issues and was replaced by Hrishitaa Bhatt.
