TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

The project required more than 4,000 extras during filming.

Over 90 construction workers from Mumbai worked for two months without the use of power tools to build the sets.

Although Sean Bean (Sharpe) and Toby Stephens (Dodd) are enemies in this series, they have both played enemies of James Bond (Bean in GoldenEye (1995) and Stephens in Die Another Day (2002)). Interesting to note is that Pierce Brosnan was Bond on both occasions.

The story is a loose adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's India novels - Sharpe's Tiger, Sharpe's Triumph, and Sharpe's Fortress.

The character of Mohan Singh is based on the recurring character of Syud Sevajee in the Indian novels (except for the first one). He plays a similar kind of character, but with a much more personal vendetta than is displayed in the movie.

Popular Dialogues

"Davi Lal: [Sharpe is asking him to steal from two merchants] But that would be stealing sahib. How am I to be a good British soldier if you make me into a thief again? Richard Sharpe: It isn't thieving when you're hungry, Davi. That's the first thing any soldier learns. Now go on."

"Gen. Burroughs: [to Simmerson] I had thought, Sir Henry, to spare you further ignominy, but since you are determined to prove as dull-witted and thick-skinned as a hippopotamus, let me speak plainly: I have no wish to die beside such a bloody fool as you!"
