Rotten TomatoesShazam is an excellent film that deserves more appreciation and hype than it received. It turns out to be a sweet surprise because the film is just so much fun. The character development is immaculate and the fact that there are emotional elements that are turned into good things is the type of content that provides entertainment as well as comfort. The film explores familiar themes and the concept is not entirely unique considering how superhero movies usually go but there are specific things about this film that help make it makes its mark and stand out. The storyline is entertaining and the plot development takes place effortlessly with several fun and humorous elements. Zachary Levi has given an exceptional performance almost as if he was made for this particular role. His comic presence is remarkable and the supporting actors also have done a fantastic job. This is one of the best superhero movies for sure.

When Shazam attempts to fly in the mall during his battle with Dr. Sivana, a group of seemingly unimpressed shoppers can be seen in the background paying him little mind. Those were actually visible crew members that were filmed by accident. Shopping bags were inserted digitally to give them the appearance of shoppers and cover the mistake up.
At the abandoned factory where Freddy trains Billy and records his powers, the sign "Ace Chemicals" can be seen in the background. That's the factory where the Joker was born. (Batman (1989) renamed the factory Axis Chemicals.)
In the original comics, the 7 evil statues on Shazam's Rock of Eternity were originally known as the Seven Deadly Enemies of Man, a more family friendly version of the same idea. Sloth was called laziness, wrath was called hatred, gluttony was selfishness, and lust was injustice.
In the comics, Captain Marvel had a magical talking tiger, Mr Tawky Tawny, as an ally. In tribute, throughout the film Billy Batson displays a liking for tigers: he likes stuffed tigers (he actually hands one to a scared little girl) his backpack has a tiger on it as Shazam his cape clasps have tigers on them. when Shazam! is performing "lightning from my hands", the background music being played is Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger".-In the flashback with Billy and the theme park with his mother, she wins him a compass with him exclaiming that he wanted the plush tiger prize instead.
Originally, this was going to be one film with Shazam and Black Adam meeting and clashing, but the producers decided to split the film into two origin films for both characters, with Black Adam (2022) being its own story set in Ancient Egypt with other heroes. However, Black Adam is mentioned in the film as an ancient champion the Wizard had chosen, who went bad. Dwayne Johnson, who produces the film and who was cast as Black Adam, had his facial features used for the magical portrayal of the champion.
"[Shazam and Freddy confront armed robbers in convenience store] Shazam: Gentlemen, why use guns when we can handle this like real men? [Shazam takes gun of out robber's hand] Freddy Freeman: Billy, look out! [the other robber shoots him, the bullet ricochets off him] Freddy Freeman: Bullet immunity. You have bullet immunity! Shazam: [shocked] I'm bulletproof. [they both laugh before Shazam's expression suddenly turns serious] Freddy Freeman: [filming on his phone] Today is December 8th, and this video proof of authenticity. Shoot him again. Shazam: [hands back the robber's gun] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Here, here. Go. Both of you! Come on. Go to town. Freddy Freeman: Wait, wait, wait. We still don't know if the suit is bulletproof, or if you are. Shoot him in the face. Shazam: Shoot me in the face. In the face? [both robbers shoot Shazam in his face and the bullets ricochet off him] Shazam: It kinda tickles. [turning back to the robbers] Shazam: You're dead. [both robbers fly out the window in front of a couple] Shazam: [walking out of store with junk food] Sorry about your window. Freddy Freeman: Have a good night! Shazam: But you're welcome for not getting robbed!"
"Shazam: Say my name! Freddy Freeman, Mary Bromfield, Darla Dudley, Pedro Peña, Eugene Choi: BILLY! Shazam: No, no! Not my name, the name I said to transform into this guy! Freddy Freeman, Mary Bromfield, Darla Dudley, Pedro Peña, Eugene Choi: SHAZAM!"
