Michelle Williams's fourth collaboration with director Kelly Reichardt, following Wendy and Lucy (2008), Meek's Cutoff (2010), and Certain Women (2016).

Filmed in Reichardt's long-favored state of Oregon, notably the city of Portland.

Prolific producer Scott Rudin was attached as an executive producer before allegations of workspace antagonism and hostility in the spring of 2021 prompted him to step down from his at-the-time active slate of productions.

Premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival as part of the official competition.
