While Eddie is holed up at Coit Tower trying to find Cletus, several helicopters pass by looking for Venom and Carnage. This was actually not planned; the helicopters flying by were actually part of the shoot for The Matrix Resurrections (2021), which was filming in the same part of San Francisco as Let There Be Carnage during their shoots. Instead of waiting for a clearer shot, Andy Serkis thought it would make sense for helicopters to be roving around during the scene and left it, adding additional dialogue by Tom Hardy in ADR afterward to mention them.
When Brock enters Mrs Chen's shop, Venom arranges a stack of magazines for her. On the cover of those magazines is Marvel writer Stan Lee.
Andy Serkis only agreed to direct the film on the proviso that he would be allowed to film the majority of it in his native UK and do all the post-production work there too, because he didn't want to be away from his family for long periods. Unknown to him, Sony was planning on doing this anyway, and therefore were looking for a UK based director to oversee the production. As it happened, this proved to be very useful, as during the worst part of the COVID-19 pandemic, international air traffic was temporarily closed down, but production could still continue.
"Woody Harrelson is one of the coolest people I have ever met," said Tom Hardy. "As a human being and as an actor, he is just formidable. There is nothing that you can present him with that will shock him; he has an answer, a solution to everything and he has a story to tell. As an artist, he is just wonderful, with such a brilliant, talented playful creative mind, that it's an absolute joy to work with him."
Andy Serkis wanted Carnage to have "off-kilter and strange" motions that would fit his powers and nature: "Cletus has real intelligence and humor, and that's reflected in the symbiote that is linked to him; Carnage's playfulness, wit and strangeness, you just can't pin him down. Fighting Carnage would be like trying to have a fight with an octopus basically." Serkis and his team worked with a group of dancers and actors on a performance-capture stage to test and build out Carnage's movements.
"[from trailer; Venom controls Eddie's arm to slap Dan] Eddie Brock: Oh! I am so sorry! Venom: NOT sorry!"
"[mid-credits scene] Venom: We all have a past, Eddie. Eddie Brock: What, are you... you hiding stuff from me? Venom: 80 billion light-years of Hive knowledge across universes would explode your tiny little brain. Eddie Brock: What-what does that even mean, man? Venom: Well, let me give you a taste, then. Just a smallest fraction of the things we symbiotes have experienced. Eddie Brock: Okay. Venom: Ready, Eddie? Eddie Brock: Yeah. [the hotel room changes into a different room] Venom: What's happening? Eddie Brock: [gets off the bed] No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no. Venom: [notices a towel on the bed] What the hell is that? Eddie Brock: Oh, that's a... that-that's just a towel. Where are we? Wh-What did you do? Venom: It wasn't me. [they watch the news on TV covering Spider-Man's identity as Peter Parker; Venom hums] Eddie Brock: What? What-what... what is this? [emerges into Venom] Venom: That guy... [licks the TV]"
