The film was riffed by Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988) alum Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy.
The film was something of a family passion project for director Greydon Clark. He directed the direct-to-video film, wrote the screenplay and appears in a supporting role as Adam. Clark's two sons, Trevor Clark and Travis Clark, star as Brian and Kirk respectively. Clark's wife (and mother to Trevor and Travis) appears as Brian's mother Laura in her final film role before her death in 2004.
In one scene, Brian (Trevor Clark) plays Doom on his small laptop. He later plays Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on a Sega Game Gear.
