This is the fourth Star Trek series to use the classic "Final Frontier" speech during its opening title sequence. In an online interview, Anson Mount revealed that he recorded the speech on the same day that William Shatner flew into space on the New Shepard spacecraft.

Anson Mount announced on Twitter July 24, 2021 that filming had wrapped on the ten episodes for the first season. He added that, "Old school fans are going to be VERY excited to see what we're trying to pull off with this one. Getting to do many things I've never attempted as an actor. So much fun!"

Captain Christopher Pike is the second Starfleet officer to command the Constitution-class U.S.S. Enterprise N.C.C. 1701, having taken command of the ship from Captain Robert April. He later turns command over to Captain James Kirk.

Both Una and Nurse Chapel were played by Majel Barrett in Star Trek (1966). The first one appeared in the original pilot, Star Trek: The Cage (1966), credited as "Number One" and the latter was a regular character in the series.
