The van in which Neil Martin drives his son Jordy to Brockton has a "Kingswood Golf" logo on its door panel (at around 1h 4 mins). This refers to Kingswood Park located at 31 Kingswood Park in Fredericton which includes an ice skating rink and a golf course.
Staffer Dave Doyle of The Boston Globe wrote a 4/15/2004 article about the 2004 Friendship tournament in Fredericton and the preceding March, 2003, match in Montreal. The article mentions that Roger Shannon (cited in Crazy Credits) was a former RCMP officer, was working as a senior manager of the Fredericton 911 system, had coached hockey at many levels, and came up with the Friendship Tournament idea when he first heard of the Brockton team's March 2003 experience in Montreal.
Since a TV production must appeal to a large demographic group, it's teleplay differs from the history of the original March 2004 Friendship Tournament. A Pee Wee hockey production would appeal primarily to kids and families, so the principal instigator of the tournament was changed from a seasoned hockey dad/coach to a Pee Wee player, Jordy, who witnesses some of the Brockton team's humiliation himself. The time line to stage the tournament was shortened from one year to three months. Tension between Jordy's parents and a scheduling conflict with a hockey assessment camp were introduced.
