The film is referenced in Paul Schrader's Auto Focus (2002), his biopic about the life and death of lead actor Bob Crane. Greg Kinnear, who played Crane in the film, enacts a couple of the scenes from Superdad (1973).
The lead character (Bob Crane) and his family are called McCready, which also happens to be the name of one of the other actors, Ed McCready. One of Kurt Russell's iconic roles was MacReady in The Thing (1982).
Ed Begley Jr., who plays one of Kurt Russell's friends, played an interviewer in the Bob Crane biopic, Auto Focus in 2002.
