TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Though not a sequel nor related to this storyline, this movie was followed by Support Your Local Gunfighter (1971), with most of the cast intact playing similar characters.

On the wall in the jail, the wanted poster for "Ben Silas" is the same prop seen frequently in Gunsmoke (1955).

Included among the American Film Institute's 2000 list of the 500 movies nominated for the Top 100 Funniest American Movies.

Walter Brennan's part was a spoof of his part in My Darling Clementine (1946), in which he was head of the Clanton clan.

This movie was made by the Artists' Union as a way to keep many of the writers, actors and production crew working. James Garner was the only person involved with the movie who made more than scale.

Popular Dialogues

"Jason McCullough: [Fingering dented badge] That must have saved the life of whoever was wearin' it. Mayor Olly Perkins: Well, it sure would have, if it hadn't been for all them other bullets flyin' in from everywhere."

"Mayor Ollie Perkins: I wanted you to meet my daughter, Sheriff. She's a good cook, a mighty fine looking girl. Takes after her dear, departed mother. Jason McCullough: Mother died, huh? Mayor Ollie Perkins: Nope, she just departed."
