STORY

Story
Fifteen-year-old Deena Marten wants the same freedom every teenager craves. But when she can't have her way, her rebellious temperament erupts in violence. Her parents, Stephanie and Todd, fear her new boyfriend, Garret, 17, is the cause. Distraught, Stephanie turns to alcohol, and Todd escapes in his work. They're unaware their Boy Scout son Adam, 13, sips from a vodka bottle hidden in his bedroom. And the problems in this dysfunctional family continue to worsen.

Actor Ryan Mouritsen (featured) was still living in Sandy, Utah while working on this production. He used to visit Hollywood to work on productions while networking and helping on TV and film productions. Sometimes he even did extra work. This film and the positive experiences helped him decide to move to Hollywood in 1998 to pursue his career goals.

Dan Lauria and Joanna Kerns dated and that's what got Dan a chance at the role in The Wonder Years in the 80's. She called the director and got him the audition his agent wasn't able to get. They eventually broke up and he went on to marry a radio station employee

Joanna Kerns and Dan Lauria had previously played a married couple in the TV movie The Great Los Angeles Earthquake (1990). Also, Dan Lauria and Hilary Swank appeared in separate episodes of Joanna Kerns' sitcom Growing Pains (1985).

[showing her the bag of marijuana] Todd Marten: And how long has this been going on? Deena Marten: It's not mine. Todd Marten: Not anymore. Where's your homework? Deena Marten: I didn't do it. Todd Marten: You lied, then. Deena Marten: Yeah. Todd Marten: As of right now, you are grounded indefinitely. No stereo, no television, no telephone, no nothing. Cynthia Marten: And you aren't going to see Garret anymore. Todd Marten: Tomorrow you'll stay home, and you'll complete every one of your missing assignments. Deena Marten: Tomorrow's Saturday. Todd Marten: [Yelling] Good! Then you'll have the weekend to finish it. And if you ever, ever raise your hand to anyone in this family again, I'll call the police. Deena Marten: The police? Cynthia Marten: Yes. Deena Marten: What are they gonna do? [Todd put the telephone down] Todd Marten: I hope you'll never have to find out. Deena Marten: I could just tell them it was self-defense. Todd Marten: Self-defense against what? Deena Marten: I could say you tried to attack me. Maybe even tried to rape me. Cynthia Marten: [Todd gets up angrily, violently, but Cynthia stops him] Todd. [Deena is very scared] Deena Marten: Who do you think they'd believe? [Todd is a very bad man. Deena is an innocent victim]"
