The storyline of The Empire revolves around the growth and fall of the empire of Mughals in the medieval period. The series starts with the crowning of Babur played by Kunal Kapoor as the king of the capital city of eastern Uzbekistan, Farghana. At the tender age of 14 years, he had to follow the step of his father Umar Sheikh because of his untimely death. In the dark days, he finds solace and a guide in Aisan Daulat Begum played by Shaban Azmi, his maternal grandmother. She mentored him on his rocky pavement through his early ruling days. The pathway to ruling the kingdom was filled with betrayal and deprivation. But much tougher challenges were waiting for him in the future as Muhammad Shaybani Khan played by Dino Morea entered his life to take over his throne.
With time he had to face many more daunting personalities like the sultanate of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodi as well as powering his way through the famous Panipat Battle. What happens to the dignified ruler? Will he survive his throne or will the dynasty come to an end? To know the Mughals in-depth watching this show is a must!

If you like going back to times of grandeur and grace this show will keep you spellbound. Even though the story is set to tell the tale of the battleships of Babur it does not fall back on portraying the lavish lives of the dynasty. The plot thickens through the series and it is captivatingly captured by the director Mitakshara Kumar. The creator of the web series, Nikhil Advani came up with this storyline and chose the perfect set of actors.
Drashti Dhami showed a new side of her by enacting the role of Khanzada Begum, the elder sister of Babur. She is the first person to portray the role of this Timurid princess. Her character is empowering as she was the brain behind several decisions during the establishment of the empire of Mughals. Shabana Azmi as always has stolen the show with her esteemed showcase of the character she played. Kunal Kapoor with his sharp features did manage to boggle minds with valour. Dino Morea, on the other hand, did a spectacular job as the part is very different from what he has portrayed before in his career.
The sets of the show are to be praised as the designers have put their right steps forward to make them look all medieval and real. The costumes are also enticing and suit all the persona they are meant for. The music by Shail Hada hit the right chords with soothing lyrical songs and instrumentals.
