Originally announced in the end credits of Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine (1965) under the title "The Girl in the Glass Bikini," this effort was initially rejected by AIP, which added new footage featuring Boris Karloff and Susan Hart in a separate subplot involving Hiram Stokely, billed as 'The Corpse.' This is also apparent in Hart's bikini-clad ghost being superimposed into scenes featuring the original actors. The final release took place in April 1966, bringing the studio's popular Beach Party series to a close after just under three years.
Originally, this film was to star Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. However, Avalon wanted to appear in more serious roles and Funicello wanted to spend more time with her family.
This is the only "Beach Party" film that doesn't take place on a beach.
Buster Keaton was originally cast in the role of Chicken Feather, and had played a similar character in a previous "Beach Party" entry, Pajama Party (1964), but died in February 1966. He was replaced by Benny Rubin. Bobbie Shaw Chance was also set to work with Keaton again, as she had before in Beach Blanket Bingo (1965).
This was the final "Beach Party" film.
"Vicki: I'm Vicki!"
"Chuck Phillips: There, the door is locked and the window is secure. We're safer then the First National Bank. There's nothing more we can do tonight, so we might as well get some shut-eye. Bobby: Shut-eye? Are you kidding me? In this place? Twice that homicidal filly, Sinistra, tried to knock me off, and that blob... he was no fraternity brother either! Chuck Phillips: The only blob here is in your brain!"
