On January 4, 2019, a video appeared on The Good Place YouTube feed entitled "Janet's Void: What Actually Happens When * BING *". It consists of five hours of Janet standing around in her void, occasionally disappearing. You Tube commentators soon noticed that her disappearances were about 22 minutes long, the length of an episode.
All of the shrimp consumed by Eleanor are fake, as actress Kristen Bell is a vegetarian. Bell described them as "rubber nuggets", painted to look like shrimp (although the various dipping sauces are real).
Michael Schur asked Ted Danson to play the role of Michael, thinking it was a long shot that someone as famous as Danson would agree to do the role. He was pleasantly surprised when Danson accepted the role.
The creators of the show always envisioned that the show would have a four season arc.
In episode 1.12, Eleanor (Kristen Bell) reads her horoscope from a magazine in the grocery store. Her lucky numbers are 1, 23, 58. The neighborhood she lives in when she gets to the Good Place is 12358W.
"Michael: You humans take something wonderful and ruin it just a little bit so you can have more."
"Chidi: I am not going to have sex with someone to get them to stop talking to me. Eleanor: Really? You and I are very different. Chidi: Yeah, I noticed."
