The animators created a LEGO-brick version of hyperspace, which involved designing a star field and the hyperspeed effect using LEGO studs. This creative approach gave the animation a unique and true-to-LEGO feel.
Jedi Bob is modeled after the mini-fig of an unnamed Jedi Knight included with the Attack of the Clones Republic Gunship LEGO set released in 2002 (set 7163). Fans began to refer to the mini-fig as "Jedi Bob," and this name was referenced in the 2009 book LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary. Voice actor Bobby Moynihan was aware of the character's obscure backstory, and carried a Jedi Bob mini-fig he already owned in his pocket during each recording session. This series reveals Bob's full name to be Jedi Master Bobarian Afol. His last name is a reference to the "Adult Fan of LEGO" community.
Yesi Scala's last name is a reference to a defunct vintage LEGO line that focused on a dress up doll collection originally released in 1979.
Gaten Matarazzo, best known for his role in Stranger Things, voices Sig Greebling, the main character. According to the series creators, Sig is short for "signature figure", a term for a LEGO mini figure that represents their maker. Greebling is a word that describes adding small LEGO part to a surface to add visual appeal, and was also used by ILM when taking small parts from model kits to detail elements of new models being made for the original Star Wars trilogy.
At the start of this adventure, Sig and his brother Dev are Nerf Herders, a profession only briefly mentioned in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Their home planet, Fenessa, originated in an 2003 online article written for the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Roleplaying Game in which it was revealed that Nerfs were known to life there.
