Ben Stiller filmed all scenes within first two weeks of shooting because he was working on other projects.
According to director Todd Louiso, during shooting and editing the film, it occurred to the filmmaking team that they needed to write some new material to punch up the comedy. Unfortunately the 2008 WGA Writers strike occurred and they had to wait six months before writing new material to shoot. Complicating the film's release was Paramount Vantage, the division of Paramount Pictures had gone under and was reshuffled within the studio.
Filming began in March 2007.
The school in the film "New Ashby High School" is actually Ashley High School in Wilmington, NC. The theater is the schools auditorium 'The Minnie Evans Center for the Performing Arts'.
The school in this film's (New Ashby High) colors are light blue, peach and orange.
