This pilot was originally made in 2002, but not officially made available until a DVD release in 2006. In the opening scene of the original version, the setting appears onscreen as "U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY SECURITY DIVISION MAY 2, 2002". In the version released on DVD in 2006, the date onscreen is changed to "JUNE 12, 2006". Both versions have a copyright year of 2002 in the end credits.
Among the anomalies presumably created by the 4-20 time storm are that traffic light meanings are reversed (red for go, green for stop), 49 US States, millions of people missing from the world & the Yankees play in Boston, (as heard on the radio in the car), the capital city of Kentucky is now Louisville, and, of course, the changes in Doug's and Toni's family stati. These would all have been fodder for episodic scripts if the show had been picked up.
Both Tawny Cypress (J.D.) and Andrea Roth (Toni Newman) appeared in Rescue Me.
Max Baker (Belskey) also appeared in Fringe and The Time Machine, both productions also having to do with time travel.
"Toni Newman: FYI. Everytime you sneak a look at my ass, 100 people back at mission control get a good look too."
"Dr. Hector Belsky: These ripples show what the time storm is doing in the past. Doug Phillips: In World War II? Dr. Hector Belsky: Yes. If the ripples move an unseemly amount, we send a team back to attempt damage control. Doug Phillips: Is that an unseemly amount? Dr. Hector Belsky: Unfortunately, yes. This is the worst we've seen yet. Think of us as FEMA, Agent Phillips. We don't send a team in for a rain shower. We send a team in for a hurricane."
