On the first day of shooting, Michael Biehn walked onto the set stark naked to film a love scene between himself and his wife, Jennifer Blanc-Biehn. He scheduled that scene as the first take because he wanted to to break the ice with his cast and crew right from the start.
During a scene in which Michael Biehn was set to struggle with Ryan Honey, the first went against stunt-coordinators advice and told the second to use a real choke-hold and actually try to cut off his air supply to make the scene seem more real. Unfortunately, the actor waited too long to give the "stop" signal (which was to tap on Honey's arm) and passed out from lack of air. Biehn came out of the situation completely unharmed, but asked Honey to use a different hold during the re-shooting of the scene.
According to Michael Biehn, the person who inspired him to direct was Robert Rodriguez. While shooting Planet Terror (2007), Rodriguez told Biehn that he should've made a grindhouse movie himself. Biehn wasn't very sure about it, but promised himself he'd have done it one day. A few years later, while in Canada working on Xavier Gens' The Divide (2011), Biehn saw a guy in a restaurant reading Robert Rodriguez's book "Rebel Without a Crew". He remembered his promise and put things in motion to make this movie.
Features performances from Danielle Harris and J.C. Brandy. Harris and Brandy had previously shared the role of Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989), and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) respectively.
Michael Biehn had just three weeks to write the script and do pre-production.
