TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

When writer and director Michael Cimino was discussing this movie with Jeff Bridges, he told Bridges it was his job to make Clint Eastwood laugh both on and off-camera, and he did.

According to Steven Bach's "Final Cut", Clint Eastwood was disappointed with this movie's initial disappointing $9 million receipts, and blamed United Artists for inadequately promoting the movie. Despite his relationship with the studio on the Spaghetti Westerns, and a two-movie deal from the studio, he never made another movie for them.

Clint Eastwood did this movie because he wanted to make a road movie, according to "American Rebel: The Life of Clint Eastwood" (2009) by Marc Eliot.

According to several sources, including Steven Bach's "Final Cut", Clint Eastwood perceived himself to be upstaged by Jeff Bridges.

The dangerous stunt where Clint Eastwood leapt onto a speeding car being driven by Jeff Bridges and hooks his leg inside the car window while holding onto the door handle was performed by Eastwood.

Popular Dialogues

"Young Boy: [Goody, with Red along, are in a tiny ice-cream vendor's truck] You're early. You're supposed to go down the next street first, then come up here. Eddie Goody: Well, listen. While we're here, can I sell you anything? Young Boy: No, I'm waiting for Judy Ann. They have a better flavor of pistachio. Red Leary: Look, kid, go fuck a duck."

"Melody: I didn't get your name. Lightfoot: Well, I didn't give it to ya'. My name is Lightfoot. Melody: "Lightfoot"? Lightfoot: That's right. Melody: That's a dumb name. I mean, what kind of person would name a kid that, ya' know? Lightfoot: What's your name? Melody: Melody. Lightfoot: "Melody"? That's not a dumb name?... Hey, maybe we had the same father?"
