See this happen a few times during this movie. Like the first time Scott goes into the locker room after waking up with all the fog around him and holds his helmet he hasn't seen in awhile and it has a lot of stickers on it and covers about half the back of the helmet. Then he goes out to the field to practice and the helmet he has on does not have any stickers on it at all.
"Coach Hand: Do you know what the future is Scott? The future is just a bunch of what you do right now strung together. And what you are doing now is giving up. And trust me there is no future in that. Scott, I hope you don't give up this easy in life, because it gets a hell of a lot harder than football."
