Scenes in the last act of this movie were filmed along the beach and swamp areas of Bay Lake on the Walt Disney World property in Florida. The dock, which flanks the former Discovery/Treasure Island, still exists.
Near the beginning of the movie, when Ben (Robert DoQui) is in the kitchen, there is a hidden Mickey behind him.
The theatrical version of this movie consists of two consecutive sequences, approximately fifty minutes apiece, originally designed to be shown in weekly installments on television, edited together to form a single, episodic, somewhat lengthy theatrical movie.
The first act was shot in central Kentucky on the Mercer County side of Herrington Lake. The cliff jump scene was shot on the lake. The cliff was built for the production.
