TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Olivia Hussey, apparently a shy girl on set, almost accidentally cut off Roger Ward's hands in one scene. When the director yelled cut, she took the order the wrong way during the scene and Ward just pulled his hands out of the way in the nick of time.

Olivia Hussey was miserable, upset and stressed throughout filming, believing Australia's dangerous wildlife would be everywhere and hurt her, making it difficult to film her on location.

The nude extras in the group shower scene were from a local hippie commune.

Despite flopping critically and financially in the US and Australia, when it was finally released in the UK (amidst a major blizzard) the film broke box office records, recovering much of any losses made.

Lynda Stoner was apparently very demanding on the set. Due to her strong animal beliefs (she is a long term campaigner of numerous animal right causes), she refused to cut open an actual dead fish in one scene, forcing the special effects department to jerry-rig together a fake one as fast as possible for the scene. Additionally, she also refused to do a nude scene, but after a long discussion with director Brian Trenchard-Smith, she compromised to partially appearing nude (backside shot).

Popular Dialogues

"Charles Thatcher: One of you has been foolish enough to try to leave us before his re-education was completed. In my view this is treason, and will be treated as such. You will remember our motto: 'Freedom is obedience, obedience is work, work is life'. Well, now understand once and for all that the reverse is also true, 'Disobedience is treason, treason is a crime, crime will be punished!'"

"Jennifer: [assembling her crossbow blindfolded] When assembled, it has three moving parts. A self-contained gas supply, which will propel a paralyzing hypo-dart at four hundred meters. Give or take, 1% accuracy. Mr. Mallory is going to licence it for his department... after the little test. [she finishes assembling it] Tito: Thirty-two seconds. You manipulate well, my dear - like a part of your body. Jennifer: It is my own design. Charles Thatcher: Yes, a very nice piece, hm. Serviceable, well-contoured, good feel... perhaps just a trifle large in the bore. Jennifer: It's been my experience, Charles... that it's less the size of one's gun that counts. More the skill with which it's used. Tito: It is also true, Thatcher, that the bore is only as large as is necessary to fit the right load. Jennifer: And what did you bring for the hunt, Tito? Something excessive, I imagine. Tito: Of course, my dear. After all, excess is what make life worth living... for people like us."
