This will be the first Tamil film to be made in three parts. 'Vada Chennai' has been projected as a trilogy, with the first installment set to hit theatres this year.
Vijay Sethupathi was supposed to reprise Ameer Sultan's role. However, he felt a certain unease with the scheduling and the plot as a whole and dropped out of the project.
Since the film begins in the 1980s, the makers have spent a big amount to erect a massive retro style set for the shoot.
Vetri maran wrote the story back in 2003.
Director Vetri Maaran is working with Santhosh Narayanan for the first time in 'Vada Chennai'.
