The Ministry of Defence assisted the production by providing Warrior armoured vehicles with crews during filming in the Czech Republic.
The Director, Peter Kosminsky, spoke to more than 90 soldiers involved in operations near the British base in Vitez in the early 1990s and members of their families.
The drama was based on events experienced by soldiers who were involved in Grapple One, an operation which lasted from autumn 1992 to spring 1993.
Just before the drama was aired on British television in 1999, the Ministry of Defence were concerned about the negative impact it would have on recruitment because the drama was so "compelling".
Peter Kosminsky started working on this project in July 1993, just as the first British soldiers were returning from Bosnia.
"Pvt. Alan James: Get your dick out. Come on, let's see your dick. Or are you a eunuch? Did your mother bite it off when you were having sex? You want to rape me? Come on, speak to me. Why are you letting me insult you? I thought you were a man. Come on, fucker. You and me mate."
"Pvt. Alan James: I used to dream about scoring the winning goal for Liverpool on Wembley. Now I dream about walking on dead bodies, because that's what I did."
