Pryde of the X-Men was a short-lived series about the X-Men, with the main character being Kitty Pryde (whose alias is Shadow Cat, though she never becomes Shadow Cat in the series), which is why the series is titled Pryde of the X-Men. The show was produced by Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions, who made a pilot for NBC. The pilot aired, but for unknown reasons, it was never turned into a full-blown series. Despite it not becoming a full series, the pilot has aired in syndication, and was later released on video.

TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Much to the disapproval of many fans of the comic, Wolverine is portrayed with an Australian accent. This is a continuation of how he was portrayed in the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981) episode Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends: A Fire-Star Is Born (1982). Ironically, the role would be played years later by Australian actor Hugh Jackman to great acclaim.

"Pryde of the X-Men" was intended to be the test pilot for X-Men: The Animated Series (1992).

Funding for this pilot came from the budget for RoboCop (1988). Instead of making a 13th episode of RoboCop, Marvel Productions decided to use their funding to have Toei Animation produce the animation for this pilot instead.

According to story editor Rick Hoberg, he gave Wolverine an Australian accent due to the Australian fad going on at the time, and it was planned for Logan to be Australian in the comics. However, Logan instead remained a Canadian.

This is the only time that Dazzler has been a member of the X-Men in an animated adaptation.

Popular Dialogues

"The Toad: I did it, Master! I did good, didn't I? [laughs] Magneto: Yes, Toad. Now, make yourself useful, go play in an airlock!"

"[first lines] Stan Lee: Welcome. This is Stan Lee of Marvel Comics, warning you to look around you. Your classmates, your friends. You never know which one of them may be a mutant. A person born with strange and wonderous powers. Now, some mutants like the X-Men, use their special gifts for good. But, then there are the terrorist mutants, who plan to destroy the human race."
