The boat the gang are on closely resembles "The Orca" from Jaws (1975).
This is the first direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movie to assemble all the main cast of What's New, Scooby-Doo? (2002). All previous DTVs had alternate Scoobys, Shaggys, Daphnes, and/or Velmas. Only Frank Welker as Fred was constant in all movies in the series at that point; in 2002 he began doubling as Scooby.
The plot is a loose remake of The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour: A Highland Fling with a Monstrous Thing (1978).
It is revealed for the first time that Daphne Blake is of Scottish descent. There is a gag suggesting that her danger-prone routine is something that runs in the family.
The Loch Ness Monster's design is almost identical to the Paleosaurus from The Giant Behemoth (1959), a film purchased by Warner Brothers.
"Shannon: For centuries the Blakes have been falling through trap doors, finding secret passageways, getting kidnapped, and getting caught in traps of our own creation. The Blakes have been famous for being-how should I put this?- danger prone. Daphne: [as the gang looks at her] What?"
"Lachlan Haggart: I wish I'd prayed harder for daughters!"
