IMDbOutstanding Achievment in Choreography Feature Film | 2004 | Dave
Best Performance in a Feature Film Supporting Young Actor | 2005 | Malcolm David
All of the film's battles were very competitive in real life. The fight that breaks out during the first battle with Wade's crew was not in the script, but everyone was so mad at each other that they just started fighting. While filming the opening battle, the director would yell "cut", but Omarion kept battling with Columbus Short. Omari does a back flip, while at the same time Columbus does a move that looks like he is pulling David up. This was not in the original choreography; it was a true battle.
It took the dancers two weeks to learn the opening dance sequence.
Omarion (David), Jarell Houston (Rico), Lil' Fizz (Rashann), and Raz B (Vic) were members of the now-split-up hip hop group B2K, and Marques Houston (Elgin) and Jerome Jones (Sonny) are members of Immature/IMX. Jarell is Marques' cousin. Chris Stokes, who happens to be the writer for this movie, is a producer for both B2K and Marques Houston.
Originally written with a part in mind for Aaliyah who was killed in a plane crash in 2001.
Grossed $48 million from a budget of $8 million.
"Mr. Rad: Get yo' head up. You lost the money, it's gone. But, you can't lay around in yo' misery too long. Do *not* walk outta' this place and start to second guess yo' talent. You got yo' ass whooped tonight. But, I done seen y'all whoop a many a ass, right in the same place. Now, you lost. Lemme tell you somethin' my father told me, is: "If it don't kill you, it makes you stronger". Remember that."
"[first lines] Mr. Rad: Time. Yeah. Now that's what I'm talking about. Yeah! I like it like this. These two crews right here is what I call bad. I'm talking bad as in utter bad. But it's up to you to decide which crew walks away with this here $600 in the hat. [crowd cheers] Mr. Rad: Okay, let's settle down. Let's settle down, now. Now, by round of applause, you decide who the baddest crew is tonight. Let's hear it for Vick's crew. [cheers, applause] Mr. Rad: All right, let's hear it for David and Elgin's crew. [louder cheers] Mr. Rad: Well, well, well. Seems to me like the money in the hat goes to David and Elgin."
