Great image quality, but over priced
01 Sep 2013 By Sudheer Prasad On flipkart.com

I bought this as a second camera to back up my DSLR. The image quality is exceptional, when it comes to noise performance and dynamic range. It almost matches full frame Canon 5D MK-II and beats APS-C SLRS like Canon-40D/ Canon 550D DSLRs when comes to high ISO noise. However, the color saturation does not come close to Canon 5D-MK-II, but betters 40D/550D. nThe body is quite small and light, but the 18-55mm lens makes it somewhat heavy and unwieldy.n It still would be lighter and compact than most DSLRs.nIt has no optical view finder but has an EVF, which is kind of jerky and not so smooth.nThe lens (18-55mm) performs very well and gives good low light performance and DOF.nnThe auto focus speed is not impressive (even after firmware 2.00 update) but is OK. Does not come anywhere close to the DSLRs. So, it may not good as an action camera.nIt takes 6 fps, but the card write times are slow when used in RAW mode.nIt takes a while to save the pics even on single shot. Apparently, it needs at least 60Mb/s write/read speed (I am using a 30Mb/s Sandisc)nThe good thing is that it has in-camera RAW processing and also all lens errors are auto corrected in the jpegs. The supplied RAW converter PC software is not very good.nThe multi-point metering system is far less intelligent than Canon's. It seems to get too much influenced by the background lighting and does not seem to give much importance to the point of focus.nOverall Fuji has tried to keep the user interface photographer friendly by keeping dials for shutter speed and aperture ring on the lens. A "Q" control helps to access most of the frequently accessed menus on one page, which is very good. There are 7 user custom settings which can be saved (similar to Canon C1,C2,C3 ). This however does not save all the parameters (see below) and it is not as easy to recall as we need to go through the menu.nFor me, custom settings are key in using a camera, because I do not want to every time reset the settings used or accidentally continue to take pictures in the setting which you used last time.nHere are a few glaring misses :n1) Many settings like white balance-shift, flash-exposure-compensation etc cannot be saved in the custom settings. nThese are not even shown on the screen after you change them!nn2) The aperture ring is not marked on the 18-55 kit lens. ( my 20 year old Pentax 18-55 variable aperture lens has it marked). Aperture cannot be controlled from the body and hence cannot be saved.nThere is only one function key which can be user programmed. This need to either used as ISO, movie mode, DOF preview, WB setting etc (choose which one is more important, only one at a time!)nFirmware 2.00 has added the following noticeable changes:n1) Focus peaking function added in manual focus mode (works well)n2) An additional custom fn button (down arrow of the 4 way multi selector) (very good, but why can't they add 2 more, as the left and right buttons of the selector are sitting idle in record mode ?)nnI do question the pricing by Fuji on this camera. True, that it is a camera with IQ comparable with DSLRs, but it still is only a mirror less camera with a jerky EVF and slow contrast sensitive focus. It is too large to fit into a pocket and yet too small to hold properly in the hands. With all the other user interface issues, it is far from what one would call a"pro" camera. Fuji better bring down the price to ~ Rs 50K to be competitive in the current SLR+kit market.nIn summary, it is a camera with great potential, but it's price would come in the way for most users.

Great Detail and Colors. Superb image even at High ISO
12 Jun 2013 By Sayantan Dutta On flipkart.com

This product is different, it will surprise you by the quality of image it delivers. The colors are very realistic and pleasing, and surpasses even the quality of a Prosumer DSLR. Also Image clarity is superb. And with this device you can easily boost to high ISO as ISO 3200, and still picture quality is great. nWe usually get scared even when we need to boost to ISO500 in a DSLR where this one gives brilliant quality even at ISO 3200. nThough the size is small Image is great and this one is a good camera for Street as well, as this goes unnoticed and you can click very good candid shots and rather can click any1 you find interesting without attracting the persons notice. Its also easily carriable, I just carry it in my side bag and take it out when ever nessesary, dont need to carry a dedicated camera bag to attract attention of the mass. nThe Kit lens being proovided XF 18-55mm is a f2.8 - f4 aperture lens which is a great low light performance lens as well as help you create very good bokeh.
