Fake GTA 6 beta testing programme targets gamers with phishing emails and malware downloads

Highlights

A GTA 6 scam has been circulating online, using fake websites and emails to promise early access to the game before its official release. The site claims that players can join a pre-release beta test, but the offer is fraudulent and appears designed to steal personal data, login details and in some cases, bank information. Let’s look at it in a bit more detail below.

How the scam works

Like all scams do, this one plays on the huge interest around Grand Theft Auto 6, which is due to launch on 19 November. Perpetrators have used polished fake pages and AI-generated material to make the offers look convincing, while one fake site even claimed, “We need you to help us build Vice City.” Some versions asked users to enter names, addresses, dates of birth or gaming account logins, while others pushed downloads that could install malware on a PC.

A fraud usually relies on excitement and urgency, and such was the case here too. Fans who have waited years for GTA 6 may see an early access email and assume Rockstar has picked them for a special test group, especially when the message looks official and well-made. That is also what makes the scam dangerous, because one careless click can expose both gaming accounts and personal financial details.
