Verdict
The Pixel 11 Pro XL is a predictable successor. It won't surprise you with brand new features, but it will comfort you with its dependable hardware and software. The AI and camera additions, like Rambler and Magic Capture are genuinely useful upgrades that make daily use better. If you're coming from a Pixel 9 Pro XL or older, the jump is easy to justify. If you already own last year's Pixel 10 Pro XL, this is a much harder sell.

Same design, smaller battery

If you owned last year's Pixel, you'd be forgiven for not spotting the Pixel 11 Pro XL from across a room. The camera bar, the two-button layout, and the overall silhouette are unchanged, with the new colours and the HiLight strip being the only real giveaways. The display stays at 6.8 inches with the same 120Hz LTPO panel, now pushed to a brighter 3,600 nits peak, and outdoor visibility remains excellent. The bezels around the screen look slightly slimmer than before, which is nice to see.

Google's other headline addition this year is HiLight, an LED strip on the back of the phone that replaces last year's temperature sensor. The idea is that it lets you keep your phone face down and still get alerts without picking it up, lighting up in different colours depending on what's happening. In practice, its usefulness is limited. It only activates for phone calls from favourite contacts and when Gemini is listening or thinking, not for regular texts or notifications from other apps, which is where most people would actually want a glanceable alert.
