Apple has launched its Fitness+ service in India, bringing its subscription-based health and wellness platform into one of its fastest-growing markets. Apple Fitness+ offers guided workouts, personalised exercise plans and real-time fitness tracking through the Apple Fitness app. With the India launch, the service is now available in 49 countries worldwide.
In India, Apple Fitness+ costs Rs 149 per month. An annual subscription costs Rs 999, which is pretty reasonable compared to other subscription services. Apple is offering a one-month free trial for the new service, so users can try it out before shelling out cash. The subscription can be shared with up to five family members, further reducing the per-person cost for households. However, Fitness+ is not included as part of Apple One and requires a separate subscription.
Apple is also using hardware purchases to encourage adoption. Those purchasing a new Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, AirPods Pro 3, or Powerbeats Pro 2 directly from Apple or from authorised resellers will receive three months of Fitness+ at no additional cost, as long as the device supports the latest software. For those who were already planning to upgrade their hardware, this makes Fitness+ a low-friction addition to add and try.
The service supports up to 12 activity types, such as strength, yoga, cycling, kickboxing, meditation, and mindful cooldowns. Workouts range from as short as five-minute sessions to longer 45-minute routines, suiting both quick breaks and longer, more structured workouts. All sessions are trainer-led and designed to be accessible to users across fitness levels.
Fitness+ works on an iPhone, but with an Apple Watch, the experience is superior. Live metrics like heart rate, calories burned, and Activity Rings appear on the screen during workouts, helping users instantly track progress. For those who already use their Apple Watch as a daily activity tracker, Fitness+ fits neatly into those habits. Users without one can still get a lot out of it, but may find the experience basic.
Another line of focus is personalisation. Users can either work out with pre-made plans or create custom schedules by workout type, trainer, length of session, and day of the week. In this way, the service is suitable both for beginners who want structure and for regular users who prefer flexibility.
Apple has also leaned into motivation and mental wellness. Fitness+ integrates with Apple Music to provide genre-specific curated playlists like Hip-Hop, R&B, and Latin Grooves to make workouts engaging. The meditation section contains 12 themes on calm, sleep, and sound aimed at short guided mental breaks during the day.
The service also includes the ‘Time to Walk’ feature on iPhone and Apple Watch, which combines audio stories, photos and music from public figures such as Daddy Yankee, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Jane Fonda and Formula 1 driver Yuki Tsunoda. The idea is to encourage users to walk more regularly, even if they are not following a strict workout routine.
Apple Fitness+ makes most sense for those invested in the Apple ecosystem, particularly Apple Watch owners seeking guided home workouts without the cost of a gym membership. At this price, it’s a decent value for an individual or family, especially if bought together with free trials or hardware purchases. For those who want live classes or other fitness platforms beyond Apple, it might not be a must-have, but if you need a simple and guided integrated fitness experience, then Fitness+ adds another layer to Apple’s growing health ecosystem in India.
