Apple brings theft and loss coverage for iPhones in India for the first time with AppleCare+

Highlights
  • AppleCare+ protects iPhones in cases of loss and theft for up to instances in a year.
  • You can now pay in monthly or annual instalments for AppleCare+.
  • Priority service, battery replacement is also included.

If you’ve ever been worried about losing your iPhone or it being stolen, Apple finally has your back in India. The company has rolled out AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss in India, something iPhone users have been wanting for a long time. Additionally, you can now pay for AppleCare+ in monthly or annual instalments, instead of making a larger one-time payment.

Up until now, users in India had access only to the regular AppleCare+ plan, which covered accidental damage, battery issues, and repairs at authorised centres. This update gives iPhone users the same options available in the West.

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss starts at Rs 799 a month. It covers two instances of theft or loss per year, meaning Apple will replace your iPhone if it gets stolen or you lose it. That alone makes it a stronger package than before, since  most people in India till now had to rely on third-party insurers for the same thing. Additionally, you still get everything included in the standard AppleCare+ plan, namely unlimited accidental damage repairs using Apple’s original parts, priority customer support, and battery replacements once the battery health dips below 80 percent.

There is a service fee per incident of Rs 2,500 for screen or back glass damage, and Rs 8,900 for any other accidental damage. All repairs happen at Apple Stores or authorised service centres. You can get AppleCare+ when buying a new iPhone, or add it any time within 60 days of the purchase. The whole sign-up process happens directly through the Settings app, where you can check eligibility, compare plans, and activate it instantly.

Most smartphone brands in India offer protection plans, but they tend to work differently. Samsung has Samsung Care+, which covers accidental and liquid damage but doesn’t always offer theft and loss protection across the board. OnePlus, Vivo, and Xiaomi usually rely on third-party insurance partners. It’s mostly a mixed experience based on where you live, who handles the claim, and how quickly they process repairs. Apple’s approach is more controlled. Much like their devices (and users), everything stays within the Apple ecosystem. That means consistent repair quality, faster replacements and more accountability.

Apple has been taking India a lot more seriously over the past two years – opening retail stores, ramping up manufacturing, and expanding its service offerings. Bringing full-fledged AppleCare+ options here now is part of that bigger push. It adds value not only to the current iPhone users but also makes the upgrade path safer for first-time buyers who are usually wary of expensive repairs.

If you’re buying an iPhone that costs upwards of Rs 70,000, the AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is worth considering. You get predictable repair costs and more importantly, peace of mind. For frequent travellers, people who tend to drop their phones, or anyone who uses their iPhone as their primary device, this monthly plan is especially useful. If you upgrade every year or just are very efficient at handling it, the standard AppleCare+, or even no plan at all, might be sufficient.
