Foldable iPhone Ultra dummy unit shown in new video, reveals form factor
Apple’s first foldable iPhone is still some time away from launch, but the leaks around it are starting to get more consistent. A new video from Unbox Therapy offers one of the clearest looks yet at a dummy unit of what is widely expected to be called the iPhone Ultra. Unlike spec leaks, this one is about form factor. Dummy units do not reflect final hardware or internals, but they are often based on supply chain dimensions. That makes them useful for understanding how a device might feel in hand and how it fits into everyday use.

The video lines up with recent leaks from Sonny Dickson and reports from Macworld, pointing to a foldable iPhone with a passport-like shape when closed and a wider, tablet-style layout when opened. Measurements shown in the video put the device at 117 mm tall and 84.27 mm wide when folded, with a thickness of just over 11 mm without the camera bump. With the bump, that goes up to 16.57 mm. When unfolded, it drops to around 5.2 mm. Apple appears to be leaning towards a slightly wider outer display, which could make typing and regular use easier without opening the device.

For context, the rumoured Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is designed to be a shorter, wider, and more tablet-like foldable, measuring approximately 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9 mm unfolded and 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8 mm folded.
The video also highlights small but practical details. Button placement looks reachable, the device seems manageable in one hand when closed, and the speaker layout appears similar to current iPhones. There is also a noticeable camera bump, which causes some wobble when the phone is placed on a flat surface.
If this design holds, Apple would be entering a segment that has already matured. Samsung, Google, and OPPO have spent a few generations refining foldables, focusing on hinge durability, crease visibility, and software optimisation. The hinge shown in the dummy unit is not final, and that is a critical part of the experience. Competitors have spent years improving this, and any first-generation product from Apple will be judged against that progress.
At the same time, Apple has historically waited before entering new categories, often focusing on polish and consistency. If the company can match current foldables on hardware while bringing its usual software integration, the iPhone Ultra could find a clear place in the premium segment.
For now, this is still early-stage insight. The dummy unit helps visualise size, thickness, and usability, but it does not say much about performance, cameras, or durability. For buyers considering foldables today, options like the Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold remain safer choices simply because they are established and available. The iPhone Ultra, if it launches in this form, is likely to target users already deep in Apple’s ecosystem who want a larger, more flexible screen without switching platforms.
