More Google Pixel Fold specifications have been unearthed. This time, we talk about the foldable phone's display features.
August 2025 update: Looking back, many of the early leaks about the Pixel Fold’s display turned out to be accurate. Google’s first foldable, the Pixel Fold, finally launched in mid-2023 with Samsung-made OLED panels, a 120Hz inner screen, and peak brightness close to the 1,200 nits that were tipped. The foldable did arrive with a triple-camera setup as predicted, although Google continued to optimise its software rather than relying on hardware specs. Fast-forward to today, the Pixel Fold series has now seen successors, with the Pixel Fold 3 offering a more refined hinge, slimmer profile, and improved battery life. But this original scoop from 2022 remains significant as it captured the first solid details about Google’s foldable ambitions at a time when the device was still shrouded in secrecy.
Original story follows…
Google Pixel Fold is the long-rumoured entry of Google into the foldable smartphone market. Codenamed Felix internally, the device is promised to combine Google’s software prowess with cutting-edge foldable hardware. While rumours have swirled for months, exclusive details shared with 91mobiles give us the clearest picture yet of the foldable’s display tech, courtesy of developer and tipster Kuba Wojciechowski.
According to Wojciechowski, the Pixel Fold is set to use Samsung-made displays, similar to what Samsung employed on its own Galaxy Z Fold lineup. The foldable’s internal display is tipped to measure 123mm x 148mm, with a resolution of 1840×2208 pixels. Early testing suggests the panel could deliver peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, with a sustained average of 800 nits, putting it on par with other premium OLED screens of that time.
Importantly, the internal flexible screen is rumoured to support a high refresh rate, possibly up to 120Hz. This would allow smoother animations and a better overall experience when unfolding the device for multitasking, streaming, or gaming. This is a big deal because foldable displays are still catching up to the standards set by regular flagship phones.
Beyond the display, Wojciechowski also hinted at a capable triple rear camera system. The Pixel Fold is expected to use a Sony IMX787 primary sensor, paired with an IMX386 ultra-wide lens, and a Samsung S5K3J1 telephoto lens. For selfies, the inner display is said to house an IMX355 sensor, while the cover screen would rely on the S5K3J1. These details suggest Google is keen to bring its computational photography magic to a foldable form factor without compromising on hardware versatility.
Some reports suggested the Pixel Fold would debut alongside the Pixel 7 series this year. However, it now seems an early 2023 launch is on the cards, giving Google more time to refine both the hardware and Android’s foldable-optimised software experience.
The Pixel Fold is shaping up to be one of the most exciting smartphone launches in years. The blend of Samsung’s display expertise with Google’s software ecosystem promised a fresh take on the foldable category, especially as Android was increasingly being optimised for larger, foldable displays.
