Honor X70 launches as the first commercial phone with an 8,300mAh battery

Highlights
  • Honor X70 comes with 80W wired and wireless charging support.
  • Honor claims 15.6 hours of continuous screen-on time with the X70.
  • The brand is also promising up to 6 years of reliable battery performance.

Honor X70 is now official as the first commercial phone with a mammoth 8,300mAh battery. This is even bigger than the Honor Power’s 8,000mAh battery. Both phones are, however, available only in China for now. There’s no word of a global launch yet, and it’s also not clear if Honor will bring the X70 to India. The Honor X70, among other things, seems to be a battery-centric phone aimed at power users who don’t want to reach for a charger often.

The 8,300mAh silicon battery with 80W fast charging support is said to deliver 15.6 hours of continuous screen-on time, 15.6 hours of nonstop navigation, and 27 hours of short video playback on a single charge. So, one thing the Honor X70 will do exceptionally well is the battery department. The 12GB+512GB variant comes with 80W wireless charging as well. This is the top model and the most expensive one, priced at CNY 1,999 (Rs 24,000 approx). Honor claims the X70 offers long-lasting battery health, promising up to 6 years of reliable battery performance.

Honor has also made the X70 smartphone quite durable with IP69K + IP69 + IP68 + IP66 ratings, making the device highly protected against water and dust. The Honor X70 also has a six-layer impact-resistant design, and the phone is said to be impact-resistant inside and outside. On the software front, the Honor X70 runs the Android 15-based MagicOS 9.0 out of the box.

Up front, you get a 6.79-inch 1.5K display (1,200×2,640 pixels) with a 120Hz refresh rate, 3,840Hz frequency PWM dimming technology, and 6,000 nits peak brightness, which should get plenty bright outdoors. You also get Aluminosilicate glass protection and Honor’s Oasis Eye Protection screen. Under the hood of the phone runs the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset with Adreno 810 GPU. This octa-core chipset was announced earlier this year and is primarily found in phones like the OPPO K13 and Realme P3, priced under Rs 20,000. The Honor X70 is also found in the same price segment. The handset is also equipped with a vapour chamber cooling system for heat dissipation.

The Honor X70’s camera specifications might be disappointing to some since it has a single 50MP rear camera with 10x digital zoom, up to 4K video recording, and OIS. For selfies, the smartphone houses an 8MP front camera. This isn’t a versatile camera setup so you’re missing out on other dedicated features such as wide-angle, telephoto, and macro. However, you do get AI features for photo editing like face restoration, anti-glare, and stylisation.

As mentioned above, the Honor X70 is currently available for purchase only in China. It comes in four variants starting at CNY 1,399 (Rs 16,000) for the base model with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Its 8GB+256GB and 12GB+256GB variants are priced at CNY 1,599 (Rs 19,000) and CNY 1,799 (Rs 21,000 approx), respectively. The top-end model gets 12GB RAM and 512GB storage with a price tag of CNY 1,999 (Rs 24,000). The phone comes in Bamboo Green, Moon Shadow White, Magic Night Black, and Vermillion Red colours.

If it does launch in India, the Honor X70 is expected to be priced under Rs 20,000, based on the China pricing and its specifications. While the Honor X70 does offer the biggest battery capacity, it would still face stiff competition from new smartphones here. The POCO F7 recently launched in India with a 7,550mAh battery, the biggest so far. Other phones like the iQOO Z10 and OnePlus Nord CE 5 are also close competitors with 7,000mAh+ batteries.
