iPhone users report crashes and connectivity issues after iOS 26.2.1 update

Apple may be dealing with another rough patch in its software rollout, as a growing number of iPhone users are reporting problems after installing iOS 26.2.1. Across Apple’s own community forums and Reddit, users are complaining about frequent app crashes, freezes, lag, battery drain and, in some cases, loss of network connectivity following the update.

One thread on the Apple Community forum titled “iOS 26.2.1 has rendered my phone unusable” describes a phone where nearly every app crashes or freezes after the update. The user says deleting apps and files has made no difference, calling the experience a major regression compared to earlier iOS versions on the same device. Several others in the thread echo similar issues, with one describing it as a “catastrophic failure” and another pointing to noticeably worse battery life.

Complaints are not limited to a single platform. On Reddit, a thread titled “iOS 26.2.1 feels like a user experiment” includes reports of long loading times, stuttering performance and a camera app that feels worse than before. Elsewhere, another Apple Community thread flags complete connectivity failures, with users saying their phones can no longer connect reliably to their carrier network after updating.

That said, the problems are not universal. Many users say their phones are running normally, and some even report improved stability, particularly on higher-end models. Still, the number of similar complaints across forums suggests this is more than an isolated issue.

iOS 26.2.1 was released last week, on January 26th, bringing support for the new AirTag 2 and a handful of bug fixes. It also landed in the same week as another iOS update that briefly caused network issues for older iPhones in Australia and had to be pulled. While that issue has since been fixed, back-to-back problems risk shaking user confidence in routine software updates.

Apple has stopped signing iOS 26.2, which means users affected by iOS 26.2.1 can no longer downgrade to the previous version. Apple has not yet publicly acknowledged the reported issues or confirmed whether a fix is in the works.

For now, users who have not updated may want to wait and see if Apple releases a follow-up patch. Those already affected can try basic steps like restarting, resetting network settings or checking for app updates, but deeper fixes may need to come from Apple itself.
