JioHotstar revises subscription prices, introduces monthly plans across tiers

Highlights
  • JioHotstar subscription plans are now costlier in India.
  • Prices remain unchanged for existing subscribers on auto-renewal.
  • There are new monthly plans across tiers.

JioHotstar has announced a new subscription structure for India with new monthly plans and increased prices for existing plans. The platform is introducing monthly plans across Mobile, Super, and Premium tiers, marking a shift from its earlier focus on quarterly and annual packs. The new JioHotstar subscription plans are effective January 28th, 2026.

The company says the change is aimed at making the service more flexible for both smartphone users and families watching on connected TVs.

What’s different for new and existing subscribers

Hollywood movies and shows will now be included only in the Super and Premium tiers for new subscribers. Mobile-only users will need to buy a separate Hollywood add-on if they want that catalogue. Existing subscribers will continue on their current plans and prices as long as auto-renewal remains active. You’ll need to open JioHotstar on the web to see details of your subscription plan and if it’s set on auto-renewal.

Here’s a table with all the new JioHotstar subscription plans and prices.

PlanMonthlyQuarterlyAnnualDevicesAd experienceHollywood access
MobileRs 79Rs 149Rs 4991 mobile deviceAd-supportedAvailable as an add-on (Rs 49/Rs 129/Rs 399)
SuperRs 149Rs 349Rs 1,099Up to 2 devicesAd-supportedIncluded
PremiumRs 299Rs 699Rs 2,199Up to 4 devicesAd-free except live sportsIncluded

Under the new system, users will be able to choose between monthly, quarterly, and annual options on all tiers. JioHotstar says large-screen viewing on TVs has grown sharply over the past year, and the updated pricing is designed to support that trend while keeping entry prices low for mobile users. JioHotstar said it has crossed one billion downloads on Google Play and now serves more than 450 million monthly active users across all Indian pin codes. The platform claims a library of over 300,000 hours of content in multiple languages. These numbers place it ahead of most Indian streaming services and closer to the scale of YouTube and Meta platforms rather than typical OTT apps.

Which JioHotstar subscription plan should you go for

Although JioHotstar subscription prices have increased, its Rs 79 monthly entry point is currently the lowest among major platforms, undercutting Prime Video Mobile Edition (Rs 99/month) and Netflix Mobile (Rs 149/month). The separation of Hollywood content is similar to what Zee5 and SonyLIV have done with premium international shows, but it does make the base mobile plan less attractive for users who mainly watch English content.

That way, the JioHotstar Super plan at Rs 149/month is recommended as it’s significantly cheaper than the Premium plan but offers almost everything most users want, including full content access across devices without needing add-ons (including Hollywood). You can stream on up to 2 devices at the same time, with one person on TV, and another on a phone/tablet.

The JioHotstar Premium plan at Rs 299/month is best for households with 3–4 viewers and those who want the most uninterrupted experience, but at twice the cost of Super, it’s worth it only if you need four screens and mostly ad-free streaming.
