JioPhone exclusive 4G recharge plans now available for Lava, itel and Nokia feature phones

Highlights
  • Jio had 4G recharge plans exclusively for JioPhone and JioBharat devices.
  • These plans are now available on other brands like Lava and itel.
  • The move comes shortly after TRAI’s directive to not keep tariff plans exclusive to select devices.

Jio is making some of its recharge plans available to all 4G feature phones. These recharge plans were previously available only on JioPhone and JioBharat devices, which are Jio’s 4G feature phones. Now, users of 4G phones from brands like Lava, Itel, and Nokia (HMD) can also use the same recharge plans, according to a report by 91mobiles Hindi. Why is this important? These are affordable 4G plans with several benefits for calls, mobile data, and SMS.

Jio’s decision to make its recharge plans available for other plans may have come from TRAI’s recent directive about tariff plans. TRAI had stated that mobile tariff plans shouldn’t be exclusive to select devices, as it could create market inequity. Now, Jio’s 4G recharge plans for JioPhone and JioBharat handsets are also available for other brands. This way, more consumers have access to the affordable Jio recharge plans.

Jio’s 4G recharge plans are comparatively cheaper than those of other telcos like Airtel and Vi, which are close to Rs 200. Jio offers an affordable 4G recharge plan at Rs 123 with a validity of 28 days. The benefits include unlimited voice calling, 0.5GB 4G data per day, and a total of 300 SMS for the entire duration of the plan.

With Jio’s 4G recharge plans now available to feature phones from more brands, more consumers will have access to cheaper connectivity. This also gives consumers more options for 4G feature phones from various brands. If you own a compatible 4G feature phone from Lava, Itel, or Nokia, switching to Jio’s Rs 123 plan now offers significant savings compared to other telcos.

5G has definitely taken over the smartphone crowd in India, but there’s still reportedly around 35 to 40 million active 4G feature phone users. This means that there’s still a high demand for 4G feature phones, possibly from the older demographic or in areas where 5G connectivity is still not accessible.
