Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs Realme 12 Pro+ performance comparison: the faster mid-ranger?

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro 5G recently launched in India and is priced at Rs 31,999, offering a compelling set of features for its price. The device competes with offerings from other mid-range series by brands like Redmi and Realme. We’ve already conducted a performance comparison between the Motorola Edge 50 Pro and Redmi Note 13 Pro+, and now it’s time to see how the Edge 50 Pro stands up to the Realme 12 Pro+ in terms of performance, based on a series of benchmarks and gaming tests.

Geekbench

We begin our performance comparison with some benchmark tests. In the Geekbench 6 benchmark, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro scored 1142 on the single-core test and 3119 on the multi-core test. The Realme 12 Pro+ scores 947 on the single-core test and 2891 on the multi-core test. The Edge 50 Pro edges out the Realme 12 Pro+ when it comes to both single-core and multi-core performance.

Next is the AnTuTu benchmark, which evaluates a smartphone’s performance across various metrics, like CPU, GPU, MEM (RAM+ROM) and UX (user experience). The Motorola Edge 50 Pro registers an aggregate score of 8,27,321 on the AnTuTu benchmark, while the Realme 12 Pro+ clocks an aggregate score of 6,01,453. The Edge 50 Pro showcases approximately 30 percent better CPU performance and over 100 percent better GPU performance compared to the Realme 12 Pro+, making it the winner in this round as well.

Throttling test

To test the performance output under throttling, we tested both smartphones with the Burnout Benchmark app. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro showcased a performance output of 70.3 percent, while the Realme 12 Pro+ logged a performance output of 76.6 percent. Considering thermal throttling, the Realme 12 Pro+ outperforms the Edge 50 Pro and wins the round due to its superior performance output.

Gaming test

To test the gaming performance on both smartphones, we played BGMI on each device for 30 minutes each at the same graphical settings. The gameplay experience was quite smooth on each smartphone, with no noticeable lag or frame drops. Coming to thermals, the Edge 50 Pro registered a temperature increase of 6.2 degrees C, while the Realme 12 Pro+ registered a temperature increase of 5.6 degrees C. The Realme 12 Pro+ wins, thanks to its marginally better thermal regulation.

Verdict

From the tests so far, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ each come with their own unique strengths. While the Edge 50 Pro takes the edge in raw performance output, the Realme 12 Pro+ is slightly better when it comes to thermal management and throttling and thus offers better output when performing under stress.

In the end, the choice boils down to the user’s preferences, If your highest priority in a smartphone is its performance output, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro emerges as the better choice. In addition to its performance prowess, the device offers a triple rear camera setup, which includes a telephoto lens, the segment’s fastest 125W charging support, a stock Android-like UI, and a great display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The Realme 12 Pro+ offers a respectable performance output with greater stability, impressive cameras with a high-resolution 64MP periscope lens, relatively fast charging at 67W, a striking display, and an eye-catching design.
