Motorola appears to be getting serious about book-style foldables. Just hours after reports surfaced that the company is working on its first book-folding phone, official-looking press renders of the Motorola Razr Fold have now leaked online. The images were shared by well-known tipster Evan Blass, who also revealed the existence of the phone earlier.
From the leaked renders, the Razr Fold clearly borrows its design language from Motorola’s upcoming Signature series, but adapts it for a larger folding form factor. There is a central hinge, a large foldable inner display, and a secondary cover screen on the outside. One notable detail is the placement of the selfie camera. Motorola has opted for a corner-positioned hole-punch on the inner display, which should keep it out of the way during multitasking and media use. The phone is also expected to support a stylus, mirroring the Signature phone’s focus on productivity and note-taking.
Two finishes are shown in the renders, one white and one black, which will likely be launched with Pantone-backed names, as Motorola has done with recent models. Three cameras and an LED flashed are housed in a left-aligned square module on the phone’s rear with the Motorola logo in the centre and Razr branding on the bottom. The rears have textured finishes and the edges are rounded. The volume and power buttons are to the right while there is an AI Key on the left. While colour names are still unknown, the overall design looks clean and relatively restrained for a foldable, rather than overly flashy.
Motorola has also posted a teaser video on Instagram that shows the evolution from a regular phone to a clamshell foldable and finally to a book-style foldable. The video ends by pointing to the Lenovo Tech World CES event scheduled for January 7th at 6.30 am IST. Three devices are expected to be unveiled there: the Signature series phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, a new Razr clamshell, and the Razr Fold.
That said, earlier leaked presentation slides suggest the Razr Fold itself may go on sale later in the year, rather than immediately after the event. Those slides talk of “brilliant displays, intelligent AI, and an advanced, boundary-breaking camera system.” Real-world performance will reveal the complete picture.
If Motorola does enter the book-style foldable space properly, it will be stepping into a segment already shaped by phones like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, Google’s Pixel Fold, and the lone OnePlus foldable, the OnePlus Open. To stand out, Motorola will likely need to price the Razr Fold competitively and deliver a lighter, more practical design, possibly with better stylus integration than rivals.
For buyers already considering a premium foldable and who can wait a few months, the Razr Fold is worth keeping an eye on. But until pricing, durability details, and camera performance are confirmed, it remains a promising leak rather than a clear buying recommendation.
