OnePlus could be preparing to raise the price of its latest offering, the OnePlus 15R (review). Launched in India late last year at a starting price of Rs 47,999, the handset stood out as a strong contender thanks to its reliable performance, impressive battery endurance, and vibrant display. However, that value proposition may soon take a hit. From March 1st onwards, the device is tipped to see a price revision.
Tipster Abhishek Yadav, who had earlier flagged a possible hike for the OnePlus smartphone, has now shared updated MOPs. While there is no official confirmation yet, the OnePlus 15R could reportedly become Rs 4,000 more expensive.
The OnePlus 15R price in India could be Rs 51,999 for the base 256GB storage variant, while the top-end 512GB storage option will allegedly retail at Rs 56,999.
Even after the price hike, the OnePlus 15R will remain one of the most power-packed smartphones in the segment with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC ticking at its core. Moreover, it packs a 7,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging support and a 6.83-inch LTPS AMOLED display that bears up to 165Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution, HDR10+ support, and more.
In terms of optics, the OnePlus 15R feels slightly underwhelming on paper. It features a dual-camera setup comprising a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide lens, but notably misses out on a dedicated telephoto camera, something several rivals in this segment now offer. For selfies and video calls, there is a 32MP front-facing sensor.
The cameras are supported by the company’s in-house DetailMax engine, which delivers promising results in well-lit conditions, particularly in daylight, where colours appear balanced, and detail retention is respectable.
The smartphone runs Android 16-based OxygenOS 16 out of the box, which is feature-rich, boasts a handful of AI tools, and is customisable. The OEM will be providing 4 years of major OS and six years of security upgrades to the smartphone, making it future-proof till 2032.
Be that as it may, the OnePlus 15R may lose some of its value proposition, especially with the arrival of its closest rival, the iQOO 15R, which has debuted in India at a starting price of Rs 44,999. The iQOO handset is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC and supports up to 144FPS gaming, promising smoother and more responsive gameplay. It further strengthens its case with a significantly larger 7,600mAh battery, notably bigger than the unit inside the OnePlus 15R, potentially offering longer endurance for heavy users.
Until the price hike happens, the OnePlus 15R remains a promising buy. That said, if the reported price hike materialises, it won’t be an isolated move. Several brands have revised their pricing upward in recent weeks. Realme has increased the prices of its Realme 16 Pro series and the Realme 15, while Motorola has quietly raised the price of its Edge 70. Samsung, too, has followed suit with select models in its F and A series. This is the effect of the so-called “AI tax”, which has contributed to component shortages across the industry.
