OPPO Find N6 being tested in India, could launch here: report

Highlights
  • OPPO hasn’t launched a book-style foldable in India yet.
  • The OnePlus Open was a rebranded OPPO Find N3.
  • The Find N6 hasn’t been officially confirmed by the company yet.

OPPO’s upcoming book-style foldable, the Find N6, is starting to create some buzz. The Chinese company hasn’t officially announced the device, but a tipster claims that the phone has entered testing in India. That has sparked speculation about a possible launch of the device in the country.

According to tipster Debayan Roy, the Find N6 is currently undergoing testing in India. That generally means a launch isn’t too far away, but Roy adds the India launch “is not confirmed yet.” This is typical of OPPO’s foldable strategy, where the brand designs hardware for China and later decides whether to launch it globally or rebrand it under OnePlus.

The OnePlus Open was, effectively, the OPPO Find N3 with different branding. Even the Find N5 was rumoured for months to appear internationally as the OnePlus Open 2 before OPPO dropped those plans and launched it as is. This time, Roy says the Find N6 is unlikely to launch under OnePlus branding in India. OPPO may be planning to release it directly, or maybe not at all.

What can we expect from the OPPO Find N6? The Find N5 earned the title of the world’s thinnest foldable when it launched in February this year, measuring just 8.93 mm when folded. With the Find N6, OPPO reportedly wants to push that further. Leaks describe the phone as “thinner and lighter than a traditional foldable,” which sets up an interesting contrast with rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which itself has drastically cut down on its thickness from 12.1 mm on the Fold 6 to 8.9mm on the current gen that launched in July.

On the hardware front, the Find N6 might be the first foldable powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, giving it a performance edge over current-generation foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Its top variant is also rumoured to include satellite communication, something Samsung and Google haven’t yet brought to their book-style foldables.

The displays also look promising. OPPO could use an 8.1-inch inner screen and a 6.6-inch outer display. A battery above 6,000mAh, if true, would be one of the biggest to be fitted in a foldable and notably bigger than the ones Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series commonly uses. Wireless charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and customisable buttons could also help set it apart.

In terms of cameras, OPPO would reportedly be relying on a 50MP Sony LYT-808 main sensor and a 50MP 3x thin periscope telephoto lens, as well as multispectral imaging for colour accuracy. This might make the Find N6 directly compete with camera-centric foldables such as the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which will probably rely on computational photography.

However, everything remains unofficial, as OPPO hasn’t confirmed the existence of the Find N6, let alone its availability in India. Considering how the brand handled Find N5 and preceding models, it’s highly probable that the device first launches in China, with global plans finalised later. For now, the Find N6 appears like an ambitious sequel to the Find N5.

The Find N6 may be worth watching for potential buyers who prioritise thin, lightweight designs and long battery life in a foldable. These are the areas where OPPO seems to be pushing harder than Samsung and Google. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 may offer strong all-round performance in addition to the large battery, while the camera system may appeal to users who want a compact foldable that competes with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. However, since the India launch is far from confirmed and all current details are based on leaks, it will be wise to wait for official confirmation before comparing it with established options like the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
